THE FARMACY

Is this truly the season for the flu?

From the interviews in the recent 9 Part Docuseries, Vaccines Revealed, one such interview with a scientist that Dr Tony Bark interviewed revealed that the flu doesn't just come around in the cold weather months.  It is a year round virus.

So why does there seem to be more incidence of the flu at this time of year?

Limited sunlight.

The flu vaccine supposedly builds antibodies therefore protecting us against the flu, but since the flu changes every year it stand to reason that antibodies are NOT the most important line of defense.

You can't build an antibody against a virus that doesn't circulate year after year.

So if antibodies are not the solution, what is?

The level of vitamin D in your blood is most important in defending against the flu.

Why?

There are receptors on each immune cell which require the attachment of vitamin D in order to produce A.M.P., an antimicrobial protein which are antivirals that protect against the flu.

The best defense is to have a primed and ready cellular immune response.

It has been my personal observation that ever since the skin cancer scare and the slathering on of sunscreens for fear of the sun, people have had low vitamin D levels.

Soon after the excessive use of sunscreens was embedded into our culture, the cholesterol lowering Statin drugs were developed and being used as a treatment against heart disease.

According Suzy Cohen, author if the book Drug Muggers, in an interview with Doug Kaufmann, a biologist, there was a recent discovery that these statin drugs may deplete or lower the body of vitamin D levels.

Furthermore, Dr Lorraine Day and Dr Batman(as they call him) when the sunlight hits our skin it pulls cholesterol to the surface of the skin and turns it into vitamin D.  Pretty amazing!

No wonder we have had such a low incidence of vitamin D in the last 30 or more years.  This vitamin is critical in so many ways.

Some good sources of vitamin D in food are portobella mushrooms(exposed to sunlight), fatty fish like mackerel, tuna, smoked and canned salmon, herring, halibut, swordfish, sardines, eggs and pork, to name a few.

Choose a good supplement and remember that Vitamin D is food soluble meaning it has to be eaten with food for absorption.

Please do not discontinue using sunscreens.  Just simply take precautions by using a sunscreen that contains no toxic ingredients, wear a hat or cover up so that you don't get burned.

We tend to be extremists in this country so the 'everything in moderation' rule should always be practiced.

Sun is very healing in moderation so get some mild sun exposure and let your skin drink it in.

It not only is the best source of vitamin D, it provides your body with melatonin(a sleep hormone) and serotonin(for immunity and depression), both very calming.

I encourage you to express these concerns with your Healthcare Provider and if he/she suggests or insists on giving you the flu vaccine don't be afraid to ask questions:

  • Can you name 3 ingredients in this vaccine?
  • Can I request thimerisol(mercury) free and/or aluminum free vaccines?
  • How can flu vaccines provide an antibody against a virus when that strain is not likely to surface again?
  • Did you know that vitamin D is critical in protecting us against the flu...and that there are receptors on each immune cell which require the attachment of vitamin D in order to produce A.M.P., an antimicrobial protein which are antivirals that protect against the flu?
  • Based on my health assessment and blood work, what is the appropriate amount of vitamin D that you recommend for me to take?
So if you are concerned about the flu vaccine....ramp up your vitamin D.

Natural sources from God...always best!

Sylvia Anton with The Holistic Garden has been coaching me for a year about adequate supplementation to my meal plan.

After assessing my current health, during a Health History Assessment, recommendations were made to assist me in providing the most effective solution(s) while taking into consideration my lifestyle and what comfortably fits into my schedule so that I can continue to commit the progression of my own health to myself.

Over the past year this is the only change I have made so there is no doubt in my mind, my improved blood work is due to the supplements Sylvia has recommended along with her careful guidance.

Thank you, Sylvia, for your Health Coaching, guidance and care.
